Provo High School filmmaking students honored as “Outstanding Young Filmmaker” at Utah Dance Film Festival

The Utah Dance Film Festival honored Provo High School filmmakers Emma Parke and Emmeline Dally, along with Dance Company members and AP art students, with the Outstanding Young Filmmaker award at its Fall 2024 show. The award, which will be presented on Saturday, August 17, 2024, recognizes the students’ creativity and excellence in their collaborative dance film, The Star.

Inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s twelve-pointed star-shaped tile, the film integrates dance and visual art, reflecting the complex interplay of geometry and spirituality. Selected from over 300 submissions from around the world, The Star stood out for its innovative approach and artistic depth, securing its place among the 35 films selected for screening at the festival.

Student directors and creators Parke and Dally spearheaded the choreography and artistic elements, working with the Dance Company and AP art students to create this fascinating work of art. Their recognition at the Utah Dance Film Festival underscores the students’ ability to combine tradition with innovation and create a work that resonates on multiple levels.

The Provo City School District is incredibly proud of these talented students and their remarkable accomplishments. We congratulate the dance team, AP art students, and their dedicated teachers on this well-deserved honor.
