OWNESBORO, Kentucky – An Owensboro plant will expand and create 450 new jobs with a $232 million investment, Gov. Andy Beshear said Tuesday.

The governor announced that Swedish Match will expand its presence, making it the fifth largest investment project supported by the state this year. New jobs are expected to include engineering, production, technical and quality control jobs, the governor’s office said.

“I am excited about this incredible new investment and the 450 great jobs it will create for families in Owensboro and the surrounding region,” Beshear said. “Our economy continues to set records and today’s announcement shows that we are bringing jobs to our people rather than forcing them to move there. I want to thank and congratulate leadership for redoubling their efforts here in the Commonwealth and look forward to many more years of prosperity.”

The facility will produce Swedish Match ZYN brand nicotine pouches. The expansion will enable the company to meet the growing global demand for smoke-free products, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

According to the press release, this will also enable round-the-clock production later this year.

Construction of the expanded facility has already begun and completion is expected in the second quarter of 2025.
