The podcast “The old lady speaks”, episode 246: Juventus lets out the bogeyman of Bentegodi

On two consecutive Monday nights at the start of the 2024-25 season, Juventus looked as if the team would be reborn with the new plan of its new coach.

And on two consecutive Monday evenings, Juventus won 3-0 each time, catapulting themselves to the top of the Serie A table.

There is only one team that has won its first two games right from the start and that is Thiago Motta’s Juventus. They have scored six goals, allowed just one shot on goal, posted two consecutive shutouts and played the type of ball that Motta is known for. The early results are more than just encouraging as we wait for the bigger games in the early season schedule.

After 180 minutes, though, things are looking pretty good – and that’s quite an improvement over the final weeks of the 2023-24 season. Much, much better… thankfully.

In episode 246 of the podcast “The Old Lady Speaks” we discuss:

  • Takeaways from the win over Hellas Verona – including that the midfield partnership (especially Manuel Locatelli) looked good once again, that Nicolo Savona made his arrival clear in his first ever start with the Juventus senior team and that Bremer have done a damn good job with a back four earlier in the season.
  • Juventus’ performance in the first two weeks of the season was… refreshing!
  • How things changed for Motta and Juventus when things really got going against Hellas Verona.
  • Just because the season is two games into it doesn’t mean there is nothing else going on. There are still a few short days left in the summer transfer window and some important business still needs to be completed.
  • With Juventus playing so well at the start of the new season, how do we think the new signings and future players will fit into the game?
  • Questions are being asked on Twitter, including whether Federico Gatti is now one of Juventus’ greatest captains of all time, who has impressed the most in the first two matchdays of the season, whether there has been anything in Juventus’ first two appearances that is unduly concerning, and who should actually be on the bench when the new signings arrive, despite all the players’ good performances.
