Chargers grab young Packers receiver at the last second

The Green Bay Packers will be making numerous moves in the next few hours.

Green Bay is working hard to trim its roster down to 53 players, and that means there will be a lot of cuts and possibly even a player trade or two in the next few hours.

One position where the Packers appear to have a surplus is wide receiver. The Packers will likely need to trim down the receiver room, and Alex Kay of Bleacher Report has linked young receiver Bo Melton to the Los Angeles Chargers in a possible last-second trade.

“The Chargers receive: WR Bo Melton,” Kay said. “The Packers receive: 2025 seventh-round pick. The Los Angeles Chargers have arguably the weakest receiver room in the NFL right now, making it a reasonable option to negotiate a trade with a team that has perhaps the largest group of pass catchers in the league.”

“The Green Bay Packers have a strong receiver corps that far exceeds the talents of their top four players from last year. The team will have a tough time deciding who to keep on the roster from a group that includes Grant DuBose, Malik Heath, Bo Melton and Samori Toure.

Green Bay has already released Toure, but more moves are likely to come. Melton only played in five games last year, but started once. In the small sample size, he had 16 catches for 218 yards and one touchdown.

He is only 25 years old and has shown promise, but he may not play a major role for the Packers in 2024.
