LOUDOUN, VA, USA, August 27, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Loudoun Coalition on Women and Girls (LCWAG) is proud to announce its fifth annual Girl emPower Summit, with the theme of strengthening connections and promoting inclusivity. This inspiring event will be held again on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Loudoun campus of Northern Virginia Community College.

Girls ages 12-18 can join for free, bring a friend or group, and enjoy interactive sessions with peers and inspirational mentors. Last year’s summit was the largest ever and the event is expected to reach its maximum capacity.

Breana Turner will deliver the keynote address at this year’s summit. She was a finalist for the LCWAG Women’s Hall of Fame in 2023 and has led previous summit breakout sessions as well as being last year’s moderator.

Turner’s engagements include two TEDx talks, an AOL Infuse Speaks keynote address, and countless other engagements, often sharing her passion for kinesiology with public health professionals to help people live healthier, more active lives.

The summit began five years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic in a virtual format to ensure girls could feel connected, seen and empowered.

Designed by a team of young women for other young women, the Girl emPower Summit is a beacon of inspiration, collaboration and community strength. As a testament to its impact, 97% of Summit attendees leave the Summit feeling more confident about their future goals and plans.

LCWAG aims to address some of the underlying causes of the teen mental health crisis by providing both resources and community through the Summit.

According to a report from the National Center for Health Statistics, only about 25% of teens say they always get the social and emotional support they need. Another 20% said they rarely or never get that support. This may be an unforeseen epidemic, as parents were nearly three times more likely to say their teens had the support they needed.

Mahsa Riar, chair and lead organizer of the summit and an 11th grade high school student, is eager to surpass last year’s success.

“We are moving through a world full of challenges and opportunities, and our goal is to inspire and encourage young girls to make meaningful connections and embrace their unique identities. Our summit is dedicated to creating inclusive spaces where every girl feels valued, heard, and capable of achieving greatness,” shared Riar. “With each passing year, we strive to build a community where every girl can thrive and recognize the strength and beauty in herself and in those around her.”

All middle and high school girls can register for free. Early bird registration is currently open, and registering early gives participants a better chance at admission prices.

To facilitate attendance at this year’s summit, bus transportation is available from central pickup locations in Leesburg and Sterling. Last year, one in six summit attendees used public transportation.

In addition to the program, participants can look forward to lunch, snacks, gift bags and attractive prizes provided by our generous sponsors and community allies.

This year’s programme of interactive sessions includes:

• Ignite Your Inner Spark: STEM for Change: A STEM immersion to unlock unique skills, proudly sponsored by Amazon Web Services.
• Fostering Inclusive Leadership: Leadership and Entrepreneurship: An in-depth exploration of leadership, social change, public speaking, and more.
• Making Connections: Creative Coping: Use the power of crafting to express yourself and increase emotional intelligence.
• Ready for the future: Face adversity with resilience: Equip yourself with confidence, positivity and balancing techniques.

LCWAG is honored to have AWS InCommunites as main sponsor for the fifth year, ensuring that the summit remains free for participants.

“The Girl emPower Summit exemplifies the power that comes when young women come together to discover their inner strength and develop the confidence to face any challenge,” said Sarah Georgiades, AWS InCommunities lead for the Americas. “As a lead sponsor, AWS is proud to support an event that aligns so closely with our mission to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the communities we serve and beyond.”

Additionally, LCWAG is pleased to welcome 100WomenStrong, a leader in Loudoun philanthropy, as this year’s Gold Sponsor.

“100WomenStrong is proud to support such an impactful event designed by young women for young women,” said Stephanie Place, Grant Chair of 100WomenStrong. “The premise itself is inspiring and encouraging. We believe that allowing these young women to participate, free of charge, in such an inspiring event that will leave them with more confidence, support and hope for their future goals will help shape the next generation of community leaders.”

Other sponsors include Bronze Sponsors Backflow Technology and Orblynx Academy, as well as Supporting Sponsors Women’s CEO Business School, POUNCE Solutions and Comfenergy.
