A thief climbed six floors using a pipe to break into film director Swapna Joshi’s sixth-floor apartment in Andheri. The thief spent some time in Joshi’s apartment before her pet cat raised the alarm.

The incident took place on Sunday at around 3:30 am. The thief entered the principal’s apartment with the intention of stealing something. He roamed the apartment looking for expensive items while Joshi was sleeping in one of the rooms and was completely unaware of the break-in.

A video from a security camera inside the house shows two people sleeping in a room. A man can be seen opening the bedroom door bit by bit. He also entered the room for a second or two before quickly exiting when the woman sleeping on the floor showed signs of waking up. A few seconds later, the thief opened the door again to search for valuables.

The director had a cat that noticed the intruder and began to meow loudly. This woke up the director’s daughter and son-in-law, who were sleeping in another room. Alarmed by the cat’s cries, they woke up and began to scream: “Thief! Thief!”

The commotion forced the burglar to flee. Before he could escape, he managed to steal 6,000 rupees.

The incident has been reported to Amboli police station and an investigation is underway.
