After Trump’s support, RFK Jr. withdrew from the Alabama ballot list days before certification

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign has not yet filed paperwork to withdraw from the Alabama presidential race after suspending its campaign last week to support former President Donald Trump in Phoenix, Arizona.

Kennedy announced the suspension of his campaign less than two weeks after submitting 15,000 signatures from Alabama residents, more than three times the number needed to appear on the November presidential ballot. Kennedy’s campaign spent most of the past year collecting signatures across the country because he was not affiliated with a recognized political party.

Secretary of State Wes Allen’s office confirmed to 1819 News that the Kennedy campaign has not yet filed the necessary paperwork to remove his name from the ballot. Allen’s office will officially certify the ballot on Wednesday, so Kennedy’s ballot status may still change between now and then.

Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump on Friday came as little surprise after he announced a major update on his campaign a few days earlier.

Kennedy, a lifelong Democrat, justified his support of the Republican by citing the modern Democratic Party’s corruption, legal policies and censorship, as well as its support for foreign wars and lack of attention to America’s decaying health care. Kennedy collected over a million signatures nationwide that will appear on the ballots of several states, but it is unclear how many of them will follow him onto the Republican ticket.

Kennedy’s country director Oluchi Onwuvuche did not respond to 1819 News’ requests for comment on the national reaction to the campaign suspension or support for Trump.
