Jennifer Garner’s fans know and love her mother, Pat. The 86-year-old grandmother rose to fame when she joined Jennifer on social media for her “Pretend Cooking Show,” where they cook together and share stories. The duo used their talents to TODAY and baked a blackberry cobbler.

Jennifer and Pat met with Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie for an interview before heading into the kitchen. The conversation became emotional as Pat discussed the loss of her husband, William, who passed away in April. Pat and William were married for 59 years and raised three daughters together.

Pat says, “I was so scared of being a widow. Then one day I had an epiphany: You’re going to be OK, Pat. And you really are. I was really OK. Now I miss him. And I really wanted to tell him I was going to be on the TODAY show.”

Jennifer says, “He loved how much people love you, so he was always there, smiling. I mean, how lucky to grow up with parents like mine? I’m always aware of that, my sisters and I are.” Jennifer called her mother an “overnight sensation” and said people were so nice to her.
