Who could headline Glastonbury 2025? The best runners and riders so far

At Worthy Farm, all the tents have been dismantled, rubbish cleared from the site and the cows returned to the pastures. Glastonbury 2024 is a distant memory and we can now turn our attention to next year’s edition.

Bookies are already taking bets on the 2025 headliners and rumours of secret talks are rife. Emily Eavis has confirmed she is “already in talks with some acts” for next year, but is naturally tight-lipped about who exactly might be on the bill. However, with 2026 confirmed as a fallow year, we expect next year’s lineup to be full of big headliners. Here are some of the top contenders to perform at the Pyramid in 2025 and send Glastonbury off with a bang.

(Editor’s note: This story was first published in July. It was updated in August in light of the Oasis reunion.)

When Olivia Rodrigo first performed at Glastonbury, she was a rising star, drawing huge crowds to her afternoon performance on the Other Stage. Today, she’s a household name, headlining the arena and rumored to be in the running to headline the US equivalent of Glastonbury, Coachella. She’s also one of the bookies’ favorites to play the Pyramid Stage in 2025 – a feat she could easily pull off thanks to the success of her second album, Guts.

Sam Fender

Sam Fender’s big 2022 Glastonbury moment was similar to Rodrigo’s – except he secured a secure spot in the pyramid. The reception the indie star received felt like he was already a headliner, so it’s only a matter of time before he makes that move to close the stage. Fender has confirmed he’s working on his third album, but whether it’ll be ready in time for the 2025 festival season is another question – he has said he doesn’t want to rush it and would rather have it “late and great than early and crappy”.

The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones didn’t play Glastonbury until 2013, when they headlined the Pyramid Stage. They haven’t returned to Worthy Farm in the 11 years since, but they’re certainly ready. In 2023, guitarist Ronnie Wood said NME it was “a must” to see the festival headline again: “If not next year, then…” Could 2025 be their year? So far there have been no UK dates in support of their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds” – so it might make sense to save them for the biggest UK booking ever.

Green Day

The fact that Green Day have never played Glastonbury is surprising. Sure, historically the festival has rarely booked acts from the rockier end of the music spectrum until a few years ago, but the punk trio seem to be heading in the same direction as Queens Of The Stone Age, who played Worthy Farm in 2023. After a supposed secret date this year didn’t work out, fans are hoping they’ll be officially booked in 2025. They’re certainly big enough and have enough history behind them to headline the Pyramid; it just remains to be seen if Emily Eavis agrees.

AC/DC are another truly legendary band who have yet to set foot on Worthy Farm. Fans were hoping that 2024 could be their year after their European tour dates revealed they would be on the continent and available during the festival. Unfortunately, no gig materialised. The band are certainly willing – in 2014 they said they would play if the festival asked them to – so hopefully one day we’ll see Angus Young and his mates tearing through ‘Highway To Hell’ on the pyramid.

Harry Styles

As Harry Styles prepared his second album, Harry’s House, there were rumors that he was close to being announced as a headliner at Glastonbury. In 2022, he is rumored to be appearing with Billie Eilish – a small test performance before headlining the following summer. This year, it was hinted that he might appear with Shania Twain. Neither of those appearances materialized, but with the star working on a new album and already proving he’s more than up to the task of headlining Coachella, the timing seems right for Styles to step up to the plate.

Raye

Raye’s story is a classic underdog tale. Suppressed by her label for years, she finally got out of her contract and proved exactly what she was capable of – both on record and in her phenomenal live shows. It’s rare that artists get the chance to headline Glastonbury on just one album, but stepping onto the Pyramid Stage under the cover of night would be the ultimate fairytale ending to this record’s run.

The seemingly impossible has finally happened. “The guns are silent,” Noel says nice things about Liam, and Oasis have confirmed a series of major reunion concerts for 2025. Next year’s Glastonbury takes place right before the start of the Gallaghers’ highly anticipated UK and Ireland tour, and headlining at Worthy Farm would certainly be an incredible way to reintroduce themselves to their fans. It would also give the band a chance to settle some unfinished business. “We never really got it done at Glastonbury,” Noel said at a press conference at Wembley Stadium in 2008. Will they try to make amends for some past mistakes next year? Reportedly not, but fans are hoping that changes before next June.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift hasn’t performed at Glastonbury yet, but she really should – the pop superstar was due to headline in 2020 before the pandemic forced the cancellation of that edition of the festival. Since then, she’s become an even bigger cultural phenomenon, somehow bigger than she ever was with the Eras Tour. Swift at the Pyramid would certainly be a spectacle – and would surely draw one of the biggest audiences ever in the field – but is she too big for it now?

Eminem

Eminem is an early favorite in the 2025 rumors, with talks reportedly already underway between the rapper and the festival. That makes sense – Marshall Mathers is about to release his new album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), so it’s more than likely he’ll be touring next summer. He’s also one of the biggest modern artists yet to perform at the festival, and could bring a set bursting at the seams with greatest hits.

Rihanna

Over the past eight years, Rihanna fans have learned the art of patience—and not losing hope. While the star was busy building a beauty empire with Fenty and starting a family with A$AP Rocky, they were still waiting for the follow-up to her last album, Anti. Just when they might have thought it would never happen, Riri said she was “starting over” with the record and was “ready” to get back in the studio. Having the album ready in time for Glastonbury 2025 may be wishful thinking, but headlining the Pyramid Stage would definitely be an iconic, emphatic way to retire.

Ed Sheeran

In 2017, Ed Sheeran headlined Glastonbury with a one-man show – just him, his guitar and a loop pedal. That performance earned him critical acclaim across the board, so his next return to the top of the pyramid could be an even bigger affair. And it could happen quite soon – the star recently announced a string of European stadium shows for next summer, with a suspicious break over the Glastonbury weekend.
