‘They were great people’; neighbors weigh in after three people die in Cleveland house fire | Local news

Three people died in a house fire in Cleveland on Sunday evening.

Bradley County Fire Rescue rescued two men from a house fire on Live Oak Trail. The two men were taken to the hospital and later died from their injuries. Firefighters later found a third person inside the home.

93-year-old Benjamin Lawrence Sr., 75-year-old Benjamin Lawerence Jr. and 73-year-old Adrian Lawerence were the three people who died in the fire. A father and two sons.

Larry Davis, who lives a few houses down from the Lawrence family, says he would have risked his life to save them if he had recognized the emergency in time.

“I was home and heard fire trucks coming up the hill. Then my daughter called me and told me that Mr. Lawrence’s house was on fire and smoke was coming out of the roof. By the time I got here, the fire had already reached the roof,” Davis said.

Davis recalled that the father, Lawrence Sr., was given CPR.

Davis has lived in the neighborhood with his family for 45 years and tells Local 3 they were great people.

“He was a good Christian; he would help you with anything. He would come to my house, lay some blocks for me and not charge anything for it. He was so good; he would talk to you every time he saw you, even in town. I worked with Adrian, that was one of his sons who died. When I was out in the yard, he would drive by and honk his horn,” Davis said.

Davis said the neighborhood will never be the same.

“I’m going to miss him very much. I’m going to miss them both. Their sons would always walk down the street and I would pick them up and take them to the store and I never had any problems with any of them,” Davis said.

Bradley County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Adam Lewis said investigators have completed their investigation into the cause of the fire.

“They concluded that unfortunately there was no reason to do so due to the damage to the house,” Lewis said.
