The parents waited four days after the girl’s injury to call emergency services and only called emergency services when the girl began to have difficulty breathing.

A 12-year-old girl in Texas died Monday after her parents tried to treat her injuries with smoothies and vitamins.

Miranda Sipps, who mysteriously suffered “life-threatening” injuries, did not receive adequate medical care from her mother Denise Balbaneda (36) and her stepfather Gerald Gonzalez (40).

The parents waited four days after the girl was injured before calling emergency services. They only called when the girl began to have difficulty breathing. In a strange turn of events, the mother took the girl and left the house in a car, allegedly to evade the police.

However, the car was stopped by police near a highway and Miranda was found unconscious but alive in the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after.

The investigation revealed that the parents did not seek medical help for the girl during the four days in which the girl was “mentally and physically incapacitated and unresponsive.”

According to local media reports, the couple kept their daughter at home for four days after her injuries and reportedly even gave her smoothies and vitamins to help her recover. They may have tried to give her oxygen to revive her, officials claimed.

“Basically, they thought they could nurse her back to health, and we don’t think they wanted the attention it would bring if the little girl was injured,” Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward told local media.

The parents told authorities that in the four days before her death, their daughter was only able to “flutter her eyes and move her hands slightly.”

The cause of her serious injuries is still unknown. An autopsy is currently being performed to determine the nature of the trauma.

The police have now arrested the mother and stepfather and charged them with grievous bodily harm to a child.
