Tennessee Titans waive 9 players ahead of NFL roster cut day

The Tennessee Titans released nine players from their active roster on Monday, two of them due to injuries, ahead of the NFL’s deadline to trim the roster to 53 players by 3 p.m. CT Tuesday.

The nine players released were: OL Brian Dooley, CB Tay Gowan, ILB Mikel Jones, OLB Thomas Rush, WR Sam Schnee, TE Steven Stilianos, P Ty Zentner, LB JoJo Domann and WR Tre’Shaun Harrison. Domann and Harrison were released due to injuries sustained during training camp.

Zentner was the team’s primary punter during the final month of the 2023 season, filling in for the injured Ryan Stonehouse. Zentner also handled the team’s punting and holding duties in the first two preseason games, but Stonehouse cleared his final hurdle by punting in the final preseason game on Sunday, making it clear enough that the Titans did not need an extra punter.

Dooley, Snow and Stilianos were undrafted rookies the Titans signed for 2024. Rush and Harrison were undrafted rookies in the Titans’ 2023 class who hung out on the practice squad last year. Domann and Gowan were signed as veterans midway through the 2023 season to help when injuries ravaged the defense, and Jones took on a similar role this year during training camp, having been signed just days ago.

The Titans have more cuts to make in the next few hours. Under NFL rules, the Titans must reduce their active roster to 53 players by Tuesday’s deadline and have until Wednesday to assemble their practice squad of 16 or 17 players. That means the Titans will have to cut about 10 more players in the most generous scenario and either cut, call up due to injury or add to the practice squad nearly 30 more.
