A meeting with Springs hometown girl Simone Biles

Simone Biles finally had some time to process the turbulent 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“I’m proud of my performance. I think we went out there and did the job that was expected of us, so I can’t be angry about whatever happened,” Biles told Houston Life.

These recent Games were much more interactive, as COVID nearly shut down the 2020 Tokyo Games. During these unprecedented times, Simone’s family had to stay behind and cheer her on from Houston. Paris 2024 was different in the best way possible.

“Support and family mean everything to me. Having them in that arena just gave me a sense of security that I didn’t have at the last Olympics,” Biles admitted.

Talking to Simone is easy. Not only is she well-trained on the mat, she is also a media professional. Biles takes every question she is asked with authenticity. It’s not hard to imagine her behind a microphone, behind a camera, or even hosting her own show.

“I’ve actually done that before. I think it would be great to have athletes there, but we have to get through all of that first. I’m trying to live in the here and now and soak up this moment and the successes, but in the future that would definitely be something cool,” Biles said.

The The She is referring to the “Gold Over America Tour,” which will feature world-class athletes and Olympians at the Toyota Center on October 19.

“It’s just going to be a fun party, good gymnastics, good vibes and we hope everyone really enjoys the show,” Biles said.

Simone is popular pretty much everywhere she goes, so why Houston? It turns out the people here are pretty awesome.

“They have supported me and done so much for me throughout my career, so it’s just incredibly exciting for me to be here in the community and inspire the younger generation,” she beamed.

Although her popularity is increasing immeasurably, the GOAT remains humble.

“I’m just like everyone else. I’m very talented at something specific that I do, but other than that I’m just like everyone else. I’m just Simone from Spring,” she smiled.

Simone is simply clear-headed. She’s been criticized, scrutinized, and idolized (probably all in the same day if she checks her mentions on the X). But Biles isn’t just the queen of gymnastics, she’s also the queen of prioritizing mental health. She reminds us that self-care isn’t selfish, and performance at any level requires a clear mindset.

“You have to be in tune with your mind and your body because they are so closely connected. When you are in tune with your mind, everything else falls into place and I know how important that is. I was in therapy again this morning; it’s just part of my daily routine, I know it keeps me grounded, it keeps me in tune with myself, that’s why I do it,” Biles said.
