TLC cancels two performances due to illness

The legendary R&B duo TLC had to cancel two shows at short notice this weekend because “T-Boz” fell ill.

TLC was scheduled to perform at the New York State Fair in Syracuse on Friday, August 23, followed by a show at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut on Saturday, August 24. But before Friday’s performance, “T-Boz” suddenly became ill. According to the duo, “T-Boz,” whose real name is Tionne Watkins, suffered from “sudden and severe nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal cramps.”

The 54-year-old singer was immediately taken to hospital and diagnosed with a “severe” abdominal obstruction, the group said in a statement. She remained in the hospital for medical observation but was expected to be released the next morning.

“Tionne deeply regrets having to cancel these shows and sincerely apologizes to all of her fans and the event organizers,” TLC said on Instagram. “The decision to cancel was made on the advice of her doctor, who had her stay overnight in the hospital to undergo a CT scan to assess the severity of her condition.”

TLC added that it is “committed to rescheduling the canceled shows and apologizes to all fans, especially those who traveled long distances to attend.”

No new dates have been announced yet.

TLC will next perform at Highland Park in Illinois on August 31, followed by a performance at Treasure Island Casino in Minnesota on September 1. They also have performances in Canada – at the Grey Eagle Event Centre in Tsuut’ina and the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls – and in Alabama, where they will headline the South Star Music Festival.

The duo’s fifth studio album of the same name TLC was released in 2017 – their first record since the death of former member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. They have since been inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame and are the second best-selling American girl group of all time, behind the Supremes.
