At 70 feet, Khairatabad Ganesh will be the tallest in the state this year

This year, the Ganesha statue will represent the divine marriage of Lord Srinivasa with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. There will also be a depiction of Lord Ram’s statue from the Ayodhya temple, along with statues of the planets Rahu and Ketu.
The idol will be 28 feet wide and will be made of 35,000 kg of clay and 25 tonnes of iron and other materials. According to sources, the idol will cost around Rs 1 crore to make.
The Ganesh statue of Khairatabad stood at an impressive 63 feet tall last year, 13 feet more than the previous year.
It all began in 1954 when freedom fighter Shankaraiah first set up a small pandal with a tiny 30 cm tall statue to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. Over the years, the celebrations were organised on a grand scale and the height of the statue was increased by 30 cm every year. In 2014, the statue was 18 metres tall.
