Mariah Carey’s mother and sister tragically die on the same day
MariahCarey is dealing with double the heartache – her mother Patricia and sister Alison both died on the same day over the weekend, TMZ confirmed.
In a statement to TMZ, the singer said: “I am heartbroken to have lost my mother this past weekend. Unfortunately, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also lost her life that same day.”
Mariah added: “I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away.”
She concluded the message by saying, “I am grateful for everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
The cause of death of Patricia and Alison is currently unknown.
Mariah’s relationship with her mother was quite complicated – in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she described it as “a prickly wire of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment.”
Despite their difficult relationship, Mariah and her mother maintained their bond… and she even dedicated a section of her memoir to her, saying her mother did her best and she would always love her.
Mariah’s relationship with her estranged sister was even more complicated – and Alison even sued her famous sister over allegations of abuse in her memoir.
