8-year-old girl seriously injured after falling from zip line at Camp Letts

An 8-year-old girl was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when she fell from a zipline at Camp Letts in Anne Arundel County. The incident occurred during a private event hosted by an outside organization at the YMCA-operated camp.

On August 24, 2024, at approximately 2:35 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene of an accident in the 4000 block of Camp Letts Road. The girl reportedly fell from a height of 15 to 20 feet while using a zip line that had been set up by a third-party company specifically for this incident.

Upon arrival, firefighters assessed the girl’s condition and determined she required immediate medical attention. She was breathing but sustained serious injuries. Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter Trooper 2 was called to transport her to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, where she remains in serious condition.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, which operates Camp Letts, confirmed that the zip line was installed by an outside vendor for the private event.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
