Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars release single and video “Die with a Smile”

After days of rumors, the alleged collaboration between Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars is finally here.

On Friday, August 16, the global pop stars released a brand new duet titled “Die with a Smile” along with a vintage-style music video. The video begins with Mars singing the lyrics and playing guitar. Later, the camera pans out to show Lady Gaga sitting at a piano with a cigarette in her mouth. Matching in jeans and red ensembles, the duo perform flawless harmonies with the band in the background. Every now and then, flashing lights enhance the intimate atmosphere and at one point, Gaga steps out from behind the piano to dance.

Gaga, 38, and Mars, 38, confirmed their collaboration on social media just hours before the release, sharing the single’s cover art, which features the two in matching red and blue rodeo outfits.

“WHILE YOU WAIT FOR LG7… ‘DIE WITH A SMILE’ a duet with @brunomars ❤️‍🔥,” the “Bad Romance” singer captioned an Instagram post on Thursday, referring to her upcoming seventh studio album.

The duo apparently dropped breadcrumbs about their song on Tuesday when Gaga shared a teaser clip of herself playing a slow piano medley on X (formerly Twitter) while wearing a T-shirt with Mars’ face on it. The latter then fueled the rumors by quoting the singer’s post with the wide-eyed emoji.

The next day, the “Uptown Funk” singer retaliated against Gaga by posting a photo of himself pointing to a T-shirt with a skull print and her name on it.

“Die with a Smile” is Mars and Gaga’s first song together, but the two shared the stage at the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris, where they performed a medley of their songs live alongside The Weeknd. Taken individually, however, the pair’s new single is their first new release in a long time.

Mars hasn’t released a solo LP since 2016 24K magic. Although he joined forces with Anderson .Paak in 2021 to form the Grammy-winning group Silk Sonic and released a single album together, An evening with Silk Sonic.

Gaga, on the other hand, has not released a new solo album since 2020 Chromatica — which inspired her 2022 tour, which was documented earlier this year. However, she collaborated with the late legendary singer Tony Bennett for her 2021 jazz album, Love for salebefore he died in July 2023.

But her solo music slump could soon be over, as the “Poker Face” singer has hinted. LG7 for weeks. First, she posted photos of herself in front of a studio microphone on Instagram in mid-July and captioned them “Just me in the studio – happy as always making music 🖤🕶️💋🎶.”

“I’m so grateful, my heart is peaceful. It’s like meditation,” she added. “I can’t wait for you to hear what I’m working on.”
