Release window for the prequel to Game of Thrones confirmed

HBO has confirmed the release date and plot details for the next Game of Thrones prequel.

Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav announced on Friday (February 23) that the film, ambitiously titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,” will be released on HBO “in late 2025” (via Deadline).

The series is based on the novella series “Tales of Dunk and Egg” by franchise creator George RR Martin about the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (“Dunk”) and the later King Aegon V Targaryen (“Egg”) before they came to power.

Along with a release window, HBO also released a synopsis: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros… a young, naive but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his young squire Egg.

“Set in a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet faded from the minds of the living, great destinies, powerful enemies, and dangerous heroism await these unlikely and incomparable friends.”

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” was officially commissioned by HBO last spring, but pre-production was soon canceled due to strikes at SAG-AFTRA and WGA.

HBO boss Casey Bloys has hinted that filming on the series could begin this spring.

The show comes from “House of the Dragon” producers Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis and writers Martin and Ira Parker – and joins the prequel, sequel and animated series from the world of Westeros that are also being worked on.
