You are a legend, sir. When Captain Howard died in the last film, I was deeply shaken. That was the shock of the film. So it was fantastic to see you again. How soon after Bad Boys: For Life Did you know that you would reprise the role in this film?

Joe Pantoliano: Well, not soon after. I don’t even know when I found out about it, but eventually I started getting messages from Westbrook (Studios) saying, “They’re talking about finding a way to bring you back. Will wants to find a way to bring you back.” And so I’m grateful to Will Smith for finding someone to come up with that. And then it was just amazing how they were able to put it together.

I think this Bad Boys Movies get better and bigger as the years go by. Adil and Bilall are back to direct this film and it’s phenomenal. Can you talk about working with them again on this film?

Joe Pantoliano: They’re great. I’m so happy for them. I like them so much and I love working with them. But especially their enthusiasm for filmmaking and (Robrecht Heyvaert), their new cinematographer, when I think of them as a team, I think of the three of them, not just the two of them.

A lot depended on Will’s success. I didn’t think Will would return to Bad Boys after winning the Oscar. I thought, “Yeah, Bad Boys is a good fit right now.” The film had a great happy ending. Will gave it everything he had. Martin supported him and they made a great film.

Yes, they did. When you talk about the three of them being a couple along with the cinematographer, that’s the same thing. I think the three of you, Will, you and Martin are also the same kind of trio now. You can witness their chemistry first hand over the last 30 years. Can you talk about how their chemistry has evolved along with yours over the course of this series of films?

Joe Pantoliano: I really can’t, because it’s so natural. It’s not something you work at. It’s a given. I said they were the modern Tracy and Hepburn.

Martin Lawrence and Will Smith look confused in Bad Boys Ride or Die

Oh, that is a great decision. Why do you think that the Bad Boys The series stands out in the action comedy genre because each one of these films just keeps getting better. And you’re right, the cinematography in this film is, oh, it’s incredible. There are so many incredible shots in this film.

Joe Pantoliano: I think we as an audience have really grown to love these characters and in every story we see these characters stuck in a situation that we think they can’t get out of. Right? They’re stuck in a tree and how do you get them down? And then in the fourth book, the fact that they become the bad guys.

To be honest, there were a lot of similarities to Midnight Run, where everyone’s chasing her. I was very proud that they stole so many scenes from movies I’ve been in. There was stuff from The Fugitive and Midnight Run. There was even some stuff from Running Scared.
