A 32-year-old Indian man fell from the seventh floor of the Khan Saheb building in the Al Majara district of Sharjah and died.
Gopa Kumar, originally from Kerala, worked as a maintenance worker and shared his room with the security guard.
The police operations center received an emergency call at 11 a.m. and immediately dispatched a team of officers from forensic science, criminal investigation, crime scene investigation, patrol police and emergency services. The man had already died due to the force of the fall. The police found the dead man in a pool of blood, as his skull was badly damaged.
The body was found in the shaft of the building and recovered by the police with the help of the security guard. It was later taken to a forensic laboratory to find out if there was any criminal intent behind the incident.
The building’s security guard is in police custody for questioning. “We cannot assume that he committed suicide before the investigation is completed,” an official said.
A friend of the deceased told Khaleej Times that Gopa was cheerful and had no financial problems. “He called his wife and three-year-old daughter almost every day. We went to the gym together in the evenings and I never heard him talk about any problems. When I last saw him, he was cheerful and showed no signs of depression. His death came as a shock to me.”
His relative Saba Biju said he received a call from the police and rushed there immediately. After consulting the police, he will receive the body for repatriation to his home country. His family has been informed of his death.
