Presidents Cup: The qualifiers for the USA, International Teams

Welcome to the daily ritual of Playing Through – Golf Talk Today.

Qualifications for Team USA and International teams are official. Sunday was the last day to secure one of these qualifying spots as the BMW Championship came to a close.

The Presidents Cup will take place from September 24 to 29 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada.

Jim Furyk is the captain of the US team, while Mike Weir leads the international team.

Team USA has an overall record of 12-1-1 in the biennial event.

Let’s take a look at the official qualifiers for each team.

Six qualifiers for Team USA at the Presidents Cup

1. Scottie Scheffler
2. Xander Schauffele
3. Collin Morikawa
4. Wyndham Clark
5. Patrick Cantlay
6. Sahith Theegala

Team USA has some of the biggest names in golf on its roster, but best of all, Sahith Theegala has secured one of the qualifying spots for his Presidents Cup debut. He’s a great addition to this roster and it will be exciting to see who Furyk pairs him with.

The six qualifiers for the international team at the Presidents Cup

1. Hideki Matsuyama
2. Sungjae Im
3. Adam Scott
4. Tom Kim
5. Jason Day
6. Byeong-Hun An

Team USA is very talented, but so is the international team. Hideki Matsuyama won the first FedEx Cup playoff event before retiring at the BMW Championship. Hopefully he can stay healthy enough to compete at the Presidents Cup.

Adam Scott finished second at the BMW Championship and Sungjae Im achieved another top 15 finish.

It will be exciting to see how Mike Weir fits into this roster and complements this talented group.

Now it’s in the captains’ hands. They have one week to decide who will get one of their six picks. Those selections will be released on Tuesday, September 3, a few days after the season finale, the FedEx Cup.

Will Team USA continue its winning streak or is it time for the international team to end its dry spell?
