Layoffs are hitting people from all angles, especially in the tech sector. Some of the biggest companies have laid off thousands of employees this year, and the atrocities don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. From Amazon to startups, layoffs have affected people in the tech sector, regardless of the size of the companies.

Here are some of the most significant layoffs of 2024 so far:

Intel

Intel has announced it will lay off over 15,000 employees this year as part of a strategy to address the company’s recent financial losses. The chipmaker aims to reduce its workforce by more than 15 percent as part of a broader $10 billion cost-cutting initiative, with plans to achieve those savings by 2025.

According to Intel’s statement to The Verge, the layoffs will affect over 15,000 jobs. Given the company’s current workforce of over 125,000, these job cuts are likely to affect up to 19,000 employees.

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Amazon Web Services has cut several hundred jobs in its sales, marketing and technology departments this year. The move is part of a larger series of job cuts at parent company Amazon.com. According to a statement from the company, the layoffs affect several hundred employees in AWS’s sales, marketing and global services departments, as well as the technology team responsible for its physical stores.

The company is currently focused on fast-growing technology areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. Earlier this year, in February, Cisco conducted a major round of layoffs, reducing its workforce by about 4,000 employees.

Intuitive

Intuit has announced that it will cut around 1,800 jobs as part of a strategic move to replace underperforming employees and managers with new employees who will focus on further developing products based on artificial intelligence. In a message to employees, CEO Sasan Goodarzi announced that around 10 percent of the company’s global workforce will be affected by these layoffs this year.
