Guy Fieri says he plans to “die broke” and leave nothing to his children if they don’t do this one thing

Guy Fieri says he won’t leave a penny of his Flavortown fortune to his children if they don’t live up to his educational expectations.

The Food Network star told Fox News he wants to “die broke” if his sons don’t each earn two college degrees. As for passing on wealth, Fieri said he is following in his hard-nosed father’s footsteps.

“I told them the same thing my dad told me. My dad says, ‘When I die, you can expect me to die broke and you’ll be paying for the funeral,'” Fieri said. “And I told my guys, ‘You’re not going to get anything I’ve built unless you come and get it from me.'”

The “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” host has two sons, Hunter and Ryder, with his wife Lori. According to People, the couple also raised Fieri’s nephew Jules after Fieri’s sister Morgan died in 2011.

Fieri said he agreed with former NBA pro Shaquille O’Neal, who also demanded that his children study hard.

“Shaq said it best. Shaq said, ‘If you want that cheese, you’ve got to get two degrees,'” Fieri said. “Well, my two degrees mean, you know, graduate school.”

At least one of Fieri’s sons, high school student Ryder, has protested against the idea.

According to Fieri, Ryder told him, “‘Dad, this is so unfair. I haven’t even gone to college yet and you’re already insisting that I have to get an MBA?’ He says, ‘Can I just finish college?'”

Meanwhile, according to People, older son Hunter has graduated from his father’s alma mater, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and nephew Jules is working hard on his law degree.

“Jules is in the music business in LA. He’s currently studying law at Loyola Marymount,” Fieri boasted. “If you want to be a great entertainment agent, you have to have that legal background. And that’s exactly what he’s doing.”

“They are on their way,” said the proud father.

Fieri’s legacy speech comes less than a month after he announced Hunter’s engagement to girlfriend Tara Bernstein.

The former “Guy’s Big Bite” star shared a photo of the couple on Instagram on November 24 and wrote: “Congratulations to @hunterfieri and @taralynn.nyc. You were made for each other. Welcome to the family, Tara.”

“I love you so much, dad!” Hunter Fieri wrote in the comments.
