Temperatures will rise in Aspen this week as we enter the last week of August and end it with Labor Day weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature this week is expected to be 76 degrees, with some possible rain..

“There’s a low pressure system moving over the northern Rocky Mountains and that could actually cause the high pressure system to move back into a favorable location for western Colorado, where some monsoon moisture could move back in,” said Erin Walter, a hydrologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Between Monday, August 26th, and Labor Day weekend, highs will be between 23 and 26 degrees. Lows will be between 7 and 9 degrees. There is still a chance of rain.

Walter said maximum temperatures over the weekend would be between 25 and 25 degrees Celsius and there could be more rain.

“So right now it looks like there’s a chance of thunderstorms and afternoon showers over Labor Day weekend in Aspen,” she said. “As we get closer to the weekend and the moisture starts to move back in, it’ll be a little cooler. I think that depends on how much cloud cover there is and how much moisture comes in. So a lot can change between now and then.”

More rain showers and thunderstorms are expected on the first day of the weekend. It will be partly sunny with highs of around 24 degrees. The evening will be mostly cloudy with lows of around 8 degrees.

There may still be showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. The maximum temperature will be around 23 degrees, with partly sunny weather.

“Keep the weather forecast in mind and check it frequently if you plan on camping or recreating in higher terrain, because showers and thunderstorms can move in pretty quickly on these afternoons and if you’re not prepared, you can get into sticky situations,” Walter advises about plans for Labor Day weekend.

According to another dataset from the National Weather Service, the average temperature for the past week was 73 degrees..

From Monday, August 19th, to Sunday, August 25th, maximum temperatures reached between 19 and 28 degrees.

Last month, the climate website of the National Weather Service in Grand Junction The average temperature in Aspen in July was 63.4 degrees. The highest temperature was 88 degrees on July 12 and 13. The lowest temperature was 39 degrees on July 5 and 6.

Walter said the Roaring Fork Valley is past its peak summer heat.

“We often have warm periods in September too, when more systems pass through. Then we are spared these longer periods of high temperatures,” said Walter. “It looks as if it will stay on the warmer side in early September. However, storm waves often pass through, behind which high pressure areas split. So I would say that we are not quite out of the woods yet in terms of warm temperatures.”
