Watch Status Quo play what is probably the last live song they will ever play
Legendary rockers Status Quo have played live for the last time. Probably. The band finished their SQ24 tour on Friday night with a performance at Vivary Park in Taunton, Somerset, as part of the annual Live in Somerset festival.
In June, frontman Francis Rossi told Daily Mirror“I don’t think we’re going to go again. And as far as the rest of the band is concerned, it’s the last tour. I just can’t imagine us doing it again. I didn’t want to announce this current tour as the last one ever. I did it once and then was coerced into coming back, but that’s a whole other damn story.”
The completely different damn story concerns the band End of the road tour in 1984, culminating in what was thought to be a final show at the 50,000 capacity Milton Keynes Bowl in July of that year. The band were lured back on stage the following year to open Live Aid, laying the foundations for another 39 years of full throttle boogieing and that final show in Taunton.
The band’s setlist at the last show relied heavily on Quo’s 70s classics, including eight songs played in Milton Keynes – opener Caroline, Paper Airplane, Roll Over Lay Down, Little Lady, Whatever You Want, Rockin’ All Over the World, Don’t Waste My Time And Down Down – before the band closed the curtain with a version of Break bridges (on, off and on again)from 1988 I’m not complaining Album. Francis Rossi has an extensive solo tour planned for 2025 (see details below), but will his band be on stage again? That is unlikely, says Rossi.
“Maybe they’ll offer a lot of money to do The Quo again, but I don’t think so,” he said. “I hesitate to call it the last time, but honestly I just can’t imagine it going on. This time it hurts like hell, physically. We were rehearsing before this tour and I remembered that we started 50 bloody years ago. When I thought about it, I realized my age again.”
