Famous New Orleans comedian dies of ‘sudden heart problem’

A famous comedian from New Orleans has died of a sudden heart problem.

Christian comedian Mutzie Daniel Forestier died last weekend as a result of a sudden health emergency, his son posted on Mutzie’s Facebook page.

“We are heartbroken, but we know he is at peace now,” the post said.

Mutzie worked as a comedian on Carnival Cruise Line ships for six years and was twice named Entertainer of the Year in New Orleans, FOX 8 Live reports.

He was also recently named Christian Comedian of the Year and his national tour was scheduled to begin on Sunday.

But family members say Mutzie was never afraid of death.

“As many of you know, Mutzie was a deeply spiritual man who was always rooted in his faith,” his son Newman wrote in an online fundraiser for his funeral expenses.

“He often spoke peacefully about death, fully prepared and ready to meet Jesus.”

Newman went on to say that his father always carried his faith with him.

“When I lived with my father, I saw firsthand how he cultivated his relationship with God,” Newman wrote.

“Almost every night he fell asleep listening to sermons and spent his final moments in conversation with God.”

“His faith was unshakable and he found comfort in his closeness to Jesus.”

Mutzie was also known for his charity work, Newman said.

“My father was a true giver, a man whose generosity knew no bounds,” he wrote, noting that while performing on Carnival Cruise ships, his father started a program “to give back to the people of Progreso, Mexico.”

“We used the money from the CD to buy pizza and give it to school children. It was a very special moment of joy,” explained Newman. “Every one of our guests could feel the joy of giving and it was a really great experience every time.”

When Mutzie wasn’t performing on cruises, Newman said he donated all proceeds from his CD and DVD sales to those in need – for example, to give Christmas presents to children, to help the homeless, or to support emergency shelters.

“He loved to make people happy and show them how Jesus calls us to live – to love one another,” wrote the grieving son. “He lived by the verse: ‘Whoever does anything to one of the least of these, does anything to me.'”

But Mutzie was never really rich, Newman said.

“Our father had very little throughout his life, not because he had to, but because he chose to give everything he had to others,” he explained.

“He always said, ‘I have money for my bills and food, that’s all I need.'”

Because of this, Mutzie had no life insurance and knew he could not leave much to his children, who are now raising money to carry out their father’s wishes regarding his funeral.

Any additional funds Newman and his sister Rachel receive will be donated to continue Mutzie’s tradition of providing Christmas gifts to children this season.

By Sunday evening, the children’s online fundraiser had raised more than $9,000 in donations.
