Tema, August 25, GNA – Some residents of Tema West Municipality have given the green light to the Municipality Head, Felicia Edem Attipoe, to demolish all structures and buildings in sewage systems and pipelines in the area.

They said this during an open forum at the Town Hall Meeting on Public Financial Management in Tema Community Two Zonal Area held by the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) at the Good Shepherd Community Hall.

Residents complained that the current state of sewerage in their community was affecting their health and economic activities and called on the MCE and its team to remove all structures.

They claimed that members of their assembly and unity committees had not proactively addressed the problems in the communities.

Earlier, Mrs Attipoe called for a collective decision on how to deal with the structures in the sewerage systems after Mr Kester Boateng, the Development Planning Officer of TWMA, made a presentation on the development projects being undertaken by the assembly and expressed the repulsive nature of the faecal waste in some communities in the municipality, particularly in Tema Second Municipality.

The presentation also showed how excess human excrement seeped into people’s rooms, backyards and drains, and that there were manhole covers in kitchens, hallways and bedrooms.

Some shop owners had raised their containers with building blocks so that the sewage water could flow under the shop while they went about their business.

The MCE cited a case where a two-storey building in Community Two had been constructed on the sewerage system and all efforts to find out the owner were in vain as community members refused to cooperate with the assembly.

She lamented that Ghanaians were politicising everything and threatening to vote against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) because it was taking action on issues that would hamper the development of the community.
