Nets shoot fast and wild in their first year under Jordi Fernandez

Nets shoot fast and wild in their first year under Jordi Fernandez

It’s not expected to be a standout year for Brooklyn. But it will be a year for the Nets to develop some players, figure out what they have and try to build a culture.

And hey, who knows? Maybe they can act as sleepers along the way.

According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, the idea under new head coach Jordi Fernandez is to attack — a lot. It’s about playing hard and fast and letting the results come as they come.

“We want to play fast, we want to play hard,” big man Noah Clowney said of Lewis. “We want to be disruptive. We know we have to be a great defensive team if we want to have a chance to win games, and that’s just the reality. Nobody has to sugarcoat that for us. We understand that.”

Brooklyn traded forward Mikal Bridges (to the Knicks), its best player of the last two seasons. They are still figuring out what to do with forward Cam Johnson, their best shooter.

But as it stands, it doesn’t really matter who’s on the roster. They just want to make a name for themselves by putting in the effort. The Nets want to be a team you don’t like to play against. They might not beat you every time, but it won’t be for lack of trying. At least that seems to be the rallying cry.

“I think the most important thing is to play fast and confident,” second-year power forward Jalen Wilson said of Lewis. “Not just standing out there and not being insecure. But doing everything at full speed and understanding that you have to attack everything … whether it’s shooting, dribbling, finding the open teammate, running down the court and sprinting to the corner, those different things.”
