Boutier and Maguire named to European Solheim Cup squad

DURHAM, N.C. – At the ninth Solheim Cup in a row, the Duke University women’s golf team will be well represented by two Blue Devils – Celine Boutier And Leona Maguire – were named to the 2024 European Cup team on Sunday following the conclusion of the 2024 AIG Women’s Open.

Boutier and Maguire were two of eight automatic qualifiers announced on Sunday along with Charley Hull, Esther Henseleit, Maja Stark, Linn Grant, Carlota Ciganda and Madelene Sagstrom.

The 2024 Solheim Cup will be held September 13-15 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia.

Boutier, a 2016 graduate of Duke University, will be making her fourth consecutive Solheim Cup appearance and has a career record of 5-4-1. Maguire, a 2018 graduate of the Blue Devils, has an impressive 7-2-1 record and will be making her third consecutive Solheim Cup appearance.

The Solheim Cup combines the tradition and prestige of golf with passion for one’s own country and one’s own continent. This international match play competition, which takes place every two years, features the best US players on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the best European players on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

The biennial event has become the most prestigious international team event for professional women golfers. The US team leads the European team in Solheim Cup competition with a 10-7-1 record.

Other Duke golfers who have participated in the Solheim Cup include Boutier (2019, 2021, 2023), Maguire (2021, 2003) and Brittany Lang (2017, 2015, 2013, 2011, 2009).
