Basketball Hall of Famer received offers from abroad before his retirement

The career of Hall of Famer Chris Bosh, once one of the best power forwards in the NBA, ended suddenly in February 2016. Due to a blood clot, Bosh had to sit out the entire second half of the 2015/16 season with the Miami Heat. Ultimately, the two-time champion never played in the NBA again. Although he publicly expressed his desire to return to the league, it never came to fruition and Bosh officially retired in 2019.

Recently, Bosh attended Goran Dragic’s farewell game, as the Slovenian guard recently retired from basketball. This was Bosh’s first official basketball game in over eight years. After the game, Bosh revealed that he had received several offers to play overseas in the EuroLeague after his NBA career ended. However, the 11-time All-Star revealed that he did not want to relocate his family to continue his playing career.

“I actually had offers from Europe. But it was time. I wasn’t able to move with my family. I had babies at the time. I saw that as a sign and kept going. But I had a few offers. It wasn’t Greece. Spain, France, somewhere there… in the EuroLeague,” Bosh said.

Chris Bosh’s NBA career

Bosh played in the NBA from 2003 to 2016. The Texan native initially joined the Toronto Raptors after the team drafted him with the fourth pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. He was selected in the same draft class as LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. The team also selected Bosh one spot before the Heat drafted Dwyane Wade. Bosh spent the first seven seasons of his career in Toronto. With the Raptors, he was a five-time All-Star and was named to the All-NBA Second Team once. He also finished in the top 10 in MVP voting twice. With Toronto, he averaged 20.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game.

In 2010, Bosh joined the Heat as a free agent via sign-and-trade, beginning the run of one of the most notorious superteams in recent history. Along with his new teammates Wade and James, Bosh formed one of the best “Big Three” cores in league history. The three spent four seasons together, reaching the NBA Finals every year and winning two championships. Bosh spent the rest of his career in Miami, playing six seasons for the team. In addition, he was an All-Star in every season he was in Miami, including his shortened 2015-16 season.

The last word on Chris Bosh

Bosh is one of the best power forwards in NBA history. Moreover, he is still arguably the best Raptors player in the history of their franchise. It is unfortunate that his career ended so suddenly. However, Bosh seems to be happy with his current stage of life. Dragic’s farewell game is likely the last time we will see Bosh play basketball in a professional setting. Fortunately, NBA fans got to see the Hall of Famer on the court one more time.
