How much will the 2024 FedEx Cup champion win from the record-breaking $100 million bonus pool at the Tour Championship?

The PGA Tour concludes its season-ending playoffs with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, where the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings compete for the most lucrative paycheck of the year.

The total bonus pool in 2024 has increased from $75 million to an incredible $100 million, with the winner receiving a $25 million share and the FedEx Cup title. The first-place payout is $7 million higher than the last two editions, won by Viktor Hovland in 2023 and Rory McIlroy in 2022.

Almost 70% of the bonus pool will be distributed among the top 10 finishers.

FedEx Cup bonus structure

POSITION PAYOUT
1 25 million US dollars
2 12.5 million US dollars
3 7.5 million US dollars
4 6 million US dollars
5 5 million US dollars
6 3.5 million US dollars
7 $2.75 million
8 $2.25 million
9 2 million dollars
10 1.75 million US dollars

The increased competition for PGA Tour prize money in 2024 is largely due to the $3 billion investment by Strategic Sports Group, signed in January to reward the tour’s stars for their loyalty to golf’s premier tour.

As a result, the purses for the PGA Tour’s eight signature events have been increased to $20 million and for the Players Championship to $25 million, matching the purse of the LIV Tour. The FedEx Cup champion’s bonus far exceeds the $18 million bonus reserved for the LIV’s individual champion, which is somewhat surprising considering how much emphasis the Saudi-backed tour places on financial compensation.

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy had different luck at the Tour Championship.

And in a prime position to hit the jackpot is Scottie Scheffler, who has already won seven times in 2024. He will begin his campaign at 10 under par as the Tour Championship has implemented a unique Starting Strokes system that rewards those higher up the FedEx Cup standings with varying margins.

The world number one started the last two editions of the showpiece event in the same position but is still waiting for his first FedEx Cup title after Hovland claimed a one-shot victory last year and McIlroy capitalized on Scheffler’s mistake-filled round to win his record third championship in 2022.
