The Iranian FIFA World Cup winner is praised for his efficient performance at the top of the match between Inter Milan and Lecce

Striker Mehdi Taremi was praised for his performance as Inter Milan’s leader in yesterday’s Serie A win over Lecce.

In today’s print edition of Milan newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the 32-year-old is praised via FCInterNews for an efficient performance that hardly resembles that of a player who has only been at Inter for a few weeks.

Taremi made his first appearance in Serie A yesterday.

The Iranian came on as a substitute in last weekend’s draw with Genoa and his cameo appearance proved crucial as he played a key role in Inter’s second goal of the game.

But yesterday Taremi got the chance to play from the first minute.

The former Porto striker was in attack alongside Marcus Thuram.

It was never easy for Taremi to find a good chemistry with Thuram. The two strikers had never played together in a pre-season friendly.

The two strikers in Inter’s 3-5-2 system must have a certain chemistry.

But according to the Gazzetta, Taremi gave the impression that he was already on the same wavelength as Thuram.

Neither Taremi nor Thuram were the decisive players in yesterday’s victory.

Rather, it was Matteo Darmian and Hakan Calhanoglu who were on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win.

But the two strikers had a decisive influence on Inter’s possession and dominance on the pitch.

In Thuram’s case, this is not particularly surprising, as he had a year to settle in. Taremi, however, seemed no less confident than the Frenchman.

The 32-year-old’s movements both inside and outside the penalty area repeatedly made life difficult for Lecce’s central defenders.

And Taremi’s technique never let him down. His combination play kept Inter’s midfielders and wingers in the game.

It was perhaps not the most striking of Taremi’s debut at San Siro.

What is important, however, is that the team apparently hasn’t lost much without Lautaro Martinez.
