‘Only one arrest so far’: TMC questions ‘delay’ in CBI probe into Kolkata rape and murder case | News from India

NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh on Sunday expressed concerns over the ongoing investigation into RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. He questioned the delay in the CBI’s action and said that the only arrest This case was investigated by the Calcutta police.
“There has been an arrest, and it has been made by the Kolkata police. What is the CBI doing? There are so many delays, so many false reports, politics are being played, to stop all this, the case must be solved first,” the TMC leader told news agency ANI.
Ghosh urged the protesting doctors to return to work and said they could continue their protest “in a different form”.
“They should have faith in the CBI and the Supreme Court. (The doctors) should return to work, their protest can be in a different format,” he said.
Ghosh said he would not comment on the investigation into the corruption case as it was currently in the hands of the CBI and the Supreme Court.
CBI officials on Sunday launched search operations at the premises of former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital director Sandip Ghosh, former MSVP Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others in and around Kolkata. The searches are part of the investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the institute. The CBI’s anti-corruption unit is also probing the residences and offices of those involved in providing materials for patient management and care.
‘Main defendant Sandra Roy undergoes a lie detector test’
Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the alleged rape and murder of a doctor-student at RG Kar Medical College, will be given a lie detection test at the Presidential Jail in Kolkata where he is being held, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. In addition, two more people are expected to undergo the test at the CBI office in Kolkata later today.
On Saturday, four people, including former school principal Sandip Ghosh, were subjected to a lie detector test.
The CBI has asked the court for permission to subject seven people, including Roy and former medical college vice-chancellor Sandip Ghosh, to a lie detector test. Although the test results cannot be presented as evidence during the trial, they will serve as a guide for the agency to conduct further investigations.
On August 9, a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata was allegedly raped and murdered. This led to the arrest of a Kolkata Police volunteer. The incident sparked nationwide protests by doctors and citizens. The Calcutta High Court directed the CBI to investigate both the murder and the alleged financial irregularities.
