Suspected thief dies at fast food stall in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, August 25: In a bizarre incident, a suspected thief died while attempting to commit a theft at a fast-food stall in Hyderabad on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place at a fast food stall in Yellareddyguda within the Madhura Nagar police station premises when a heavy storage rack fell on the suspected thief.

A police officer said the incident occurred around 3:30 am outside the Agra Sweet House.

The thief tried to open the storage rack in a street shop. CCTV shows that the rack fell over and the man who tried to open it was crushed underneath.

The man’s body was discovered at around 6:00 a.m. The police arrived at the scene after being alerted by local residents and took the body for an autopsy. The deceased has not yet been identified.

A police officer from Madhura Nagar police station said they have registered a case and started an investigation.

The officer said they were reviewing the video footage as part of the investigation and were trying to identify the dead man.

Police denied the report circulating on social media that a fruit vendor was murdered by being crushed under the stand. The official warned those spreading false news.

Last week, Madhura Nagar police urged people not to spread unconfirmed information after rumours emerged that a man had been murdered.

The police had received a call on August 21 that a pool of blood, sandals and a blood-stained cloth had been found in the Rahmathnagar area.

After investigation, police found the incident to be an accident. Police said a young man named Varshith alias Sonu, 22, accidentally cut his right foot when he stepped on a liquor bottle.
