A poor imitation of the last one under Stefano Pioli
AC Milan’s start to the season was surprising, something that has not been seen in Milan since the 2011-2012 season, when the Rossoneri, with Massimiliano Allegri on the bench, picked up the same number of points after two Serie A matchdays. However, at the end of that season, Milan finished second in the table, showing that there is still plenty of time for improvement and recovery, but it must start immediately.
Losing any more time would further jeopardise an already difficult season and Milan cannot afford that if it wants to keep the trust of its fans.
What was seen in Parma yesterday was reported Tuttosportwas a Milan without identity, “a poor imitation of the last ones under Stefano Pioli, with gaps between departments, an almost total lack of technical, physical and mental aggressiveness and a weakness in creating clear chances that a great team cannot afford.”
The blame for this situation also lies with Paulo Fonseca, who is the first to be responsible for this technical-tactical situation. After the match in Tardini, the Portuguese coach honestly analyzed the defeat against Parma in his post-match interview and admitted his mistake: “As a coach, I am always primarily responsible for what happens to the team. Therefore, I accept responsibility and do not want to shirk it.”
At the same time, however, the blame does not lie solely with Fonseca, who nevertheless did not shy away from admitting the following: “It seems clear to me that there is a collective problem with defensive posture and aggressiveness. Then people only look at the defenders, but the defenders suffer a lot from the ease with which the others play. This team has a general problem. After an important preseason, we have experienced a difficult transition that is difficult to explain (…)”although he should somehow manage to do so, as the Rossoneri fans are already quite dissatisfied and are (again) demanding an immediate reaction against Lazio, in a game that already weighs as heavy as a boulder.
