Day 40 of the Esports World Cup set the stage for the grand finals in Rocket League, ESL R1 and PUBG: Battlegrounds!

We share yesterday’s results while also taking a look at the matches that will be played on the final day of the inaugural Esports World Cup!

Rocket League

In Rocket League, the day began with one match being played in each of the four groups. The winner of that match would advance to the playoffs, while the loser would be sent home. Here are the results of those important matches:

  • Team BDS 3 – 0 PWR
  • Gen.G 3 – 0 Team Secret
  • FURIA 3 – 2 twisted heads
  • Chiefs Esports Club 3 – 0 Gentle Mates Alpine

However, these weren’t the only matches that took place in Rocket League yesterday, as all of the quarterfinals matches were also concluded. Most of the quarterfinals matches were a debacle, with the exception of Team BDS vs. Spacestation Gaming, which ended in an incredibly entertaining matchup that ended 3-2 in favor of Team BDS.

In the other games, Gen.G, Team Falcons and G2 Esports made it to the semifinals after 4-0 wins over Team Vitality, FURIA and Chiefs Esports Club respectively!

There are some interesting semifinals coming up today, with Team BDS taking on Gen.G and Team Falcons taking on G2 Esports, with all four organizations just one win away from the grand finals!

ESL-R1

Yesterday’s ESL R1 action included the two Last Chance Qualifiers, which featured two groups of three teams each. Each group would compete four times, and the winners of each group would advance to today’s grand finals.

Group A of the Last Chance Qualifiers would feature Williams Esports, Team Falcons, and G2 Esports, with Williams Esports comfortably finishing at the top of the group with 2 wins in the 4 races. They would finish with an impressive total points tally of 204, with Team Falcons and G2 Esports collecting 117 and 84 points respectively.

Group B consisted of MOUZ, APEX Racing Team and BS+COMPETITION. The favorite in many eyes, MOUZ, also had an easy time with this group and achieved 180 points. APEX Racing Team was eliminated in second place with 126 points, as was BS+COMPETITION with 100 points.

This means that only six teams remain for the grand finals. Team Redline, Team Vitality, Porsche Coanda Esports and Guild Esports are the other organizations that made it through!

PUBG: Battlegrounds

Last but not least, a total of six rounds were played in PUBG: Battleground, the other six were played today. Soniqs started off with a bang and took the first win of the day, the other games were won by Team Falcons, FaZe Clan, TSM, Kwangdong Freecs and Daytrade Gaming.

As you can see, there were no repeat winners, meaning all teams still have a chance of winning the trophy. The league table is incredibly tight, as shown below:

3. Kwangdong Freecs: 52 points

5. Daytrade Gaming: 44 points

7. Petrichor Road: 34 points

8. Natus Vincere: 31 points
