Stabbing in Bronx subway: Man dies after argument that leads to stabbing in 2 trains

MELROSE, Bronx (WABC) – A man has died after a stabbing in the subway in the Bronx.

It happened just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday on a northbound 2 train at the corner of 149th Street and 3rd Avenue. Police say the two men got into a verbal argument and pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man in the chest.

The 33-year-old victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

The 36-year-old suspect was arrested.

Ali Hoeite was trapped on the same Line 2 train with other frightened passengers on Saturday afternoon when the two men fought.

Hoeite says the man who eventually died was stabbed by the other man with his own knife.

“He took the knife from him and boom, he stabbed it in his heart,” he said.

Because of the fatal stabbing, the 149th Street-Third Avenue station had to be closed for police investigation.

It is a station that always seems to be at the center of unrest, says Isma.

“That’s why sometimes I don’t want to take the subway, I prefer to take the bus. But even on weekends there are a lot of problems. It’s very scary,” said Isma.

It is unclear whether the two men knew each other.

The investigation is ongoing.
