After a deal with the Browns, the Bears strengthen their defensive line before roster cuts

One day after trading former Seattle Seahawks pass rusher Darrell Taylor and two days after head coach Matt Eberflus publicly expressed concerns about defensive strength, the Chicago Bears have agreed to another transfer.

According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, the Bears have agreed to a trade with the Cleveland Browns for defensive tackle Chris Williams and a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

With the additional player in the room, the Bears now have another player to choose from when it comes to assembling the 53-man roster by Tuesday afternoon.

Williams, the former undrafted free agent under Wagner, will be heading to the fourth team of his career. Williams played 13 games with the Indianapolis Colts from 2021-2022. In Indianapolis, Williams overlapped with Eberflus, who served as his defensive coordinator in 2021.

Just like the trade for Taylor, Williams was on the line and there was a risk that the Browns could release him after their final preseason game. The Bears avoided having to fight for him on waivers by agreeing to the trade in the late round of the draft.

Williams had two sacks and four QB hits in 45 defensive snaps for the Browns this preseason.
