Parts of the ceiling collapse in the CTE tunnel, man arrested for driving a dump truck over 4.5 m high without an escort

In the early morning hours of August 25, parts of the ceiling in a section of the Central Expressway (CTE) tunnel collapsed. Stomper Happy Stomp alerted people to online videos of the aftermath of the incident, which showed traffic congestion at the tunnel entrance due to a lane closure and vehicles driving around the debris scattered on the road inside the tunnel. One Facebook user commented: “The dump truck in front of us forgot to lower the bin. As a result, the dumped bin smashed the lamps and cables. I was there at around 2am. The investigation ended at around 4am and the dump truck was towed away.” At 1.08am, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) tweeted about an accident in the CTE tunnel towards Seletar Expressway before the Cairnhill Circle entrance and that lanes one and two should be avoided. There was no structural damage to the ceiling, the LTA told The Straits Times.

In response to a query from Stomp, police said they were notified of an accident involving a dump truck on the CTE at around 1am. A 39-year-old male driver was arrested for driving a heavy motor vehicle with an overall height of over 4.5m without being accompanied by a police officer or auxiliary police officer. No injuries were reported and police investigations are ongoing.
