Logan Sargeant’s last F1 race today? Mick Schumacher in talks for mid-season switch | F1
Due to Logan Sargeant’s bad luck, Mick Schumacher could get a chance to return to F1.
The Williams driver had a serious accident during practice for the Dutch Grand Prix on Saturday, during which his car, shockingly, caught fire.
His right front tire touched the grass, he spun into the barriers and damaged his car.
Sargeant was therefore unable to take part in qualifying – a nightmare scenario for a driver under pressure who has already lost his F1 seat for 2025.
It was later speculated – by none other than Toto Wolff – that Sargeant might contest his last F1 race at Zandvoort on Sunday before being taken out of the car for good.
Mercedes team boss Wolff was asked whether his third driver – Schumacher – could return to full-time racing.
“It’s difficult for me to judge,” Wolff told Sky Deutschland.
“Audi is the only team that has not yet named its second driver.
“I don’t know what Williams will do after today’s debacle either.”
Schumacher is currently in his second season out of F1 after being released by Haas at the end of 2022.
The then team boss Günther Steiner pointed out the frequency of Schumacher’s accidents before he signed two experienced drivers.
The son of the legendary Michael Schumacher remained in the paddock as Mercedes’ third driver.
This year he took on additional responsibilities at Alpine and drove for the team in the World Endurance Championship.
Schumacher was behind the wheel of an Alpine at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Alpine was apparently his best hope for a return to Formula 1 after his hunt for Carlos Sainz ended in failure.
However, Alpine confirmed before the Dutch Grand Prix that they had selected rookie Jack Doohan as their driver for 2025.
Doohan and Schumacher had already tested an Alpine on the same day – a kind of “shootout” test between two F1 hopefuls.
Schumacher’s dream of an F1 comeback has barely been shattered by Alpine’s decision, and another potential has already emerged at Williams…
