In the early hours of August 25, parts of the ceiling collapsed in a section of the Central Expressway (CTE) tunnel.

Tamper Happy Stomp drew attention to online videos of the aftermath of the incident, which showed traffic congestion at the tunnel entrance due to a lane closure and showed vehicles swerving to avoid debris scattered on the road inside the tunnel.

One Facebook user commented: “The dump truck in front of us forgot to lower the bin. As a result, the tipped bin pierced the lights and cables. I was there around 2am. The investigation ended around 4am and the dump truck was towed away.”

At 1:08am, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) tweeted about an accident in the CTE tunnel towards Seletar Expressway before the entrance to Cairnhill Circle and that lanes one and two should be avoided.

LTA told The Straits Times there was no structural damage to the ceiling.
