DAYTON, Ohio (AP/WSVN) — A 12-year-old girl was fatally shot early Friday morning when someone in her bed fired several shots into three homes in an Ohio city, authorities said.

It is unclear what caused the shooting, Dayton police Maj. Brian Johns said. No other injuries were reported. At least two shooters are believed to have been involved, but the investigation is ongoing.

The shootings were reported around 1 a.m., Johns said, adding that more than 30 rifle cartridges were found at the scene. Bullets were fired from the street at the adjacent houses, each one struck by multiple shots.

The girl, identified by her father as Isabella Amor-Carlos, was in an upstairs bedroom when she was shot. The seventh-grader’s father, Michael Nooks, and her 11-year-old sister were also in the house at the time.

“I don’t get it. I just don’t get it and that’s it, that’s it, that’s the story. All of a sudden, three bullets rip through her room and now she’s gone,” Nooks said.

It is unclear whether anyone was in the other two houses at the time of the shootings, Johns said.

A statement from the school district reads, in part: “This student was an important member of the Charity Adams community and will be greatly missed by both staff and students.”

Now the grieving family must prepare the funeral of their eldest daughter.

“I don’t cause any problems. My kids don’t cause any problems. My daughter doesn’t cause any problems, so this is all pointless. It’s completely and utterly pointless,” Nooks said.

Amor-Carlos is the eighth teenager killed by gunfire in Dayton this year.
