Alabama high school football player suffers severe head injury during game

This story has been updated to reflect that the Alabama Independent Schools Association removed a statement from social media on Saturday that initially addressed the death of Morgan Academy quarterback Caden Tellier.

Morgan Academy quarterback Caden Tellier is in critical condition after suffering a head injury during the private school’s first home game in Selma on Friday night, the director of the Alabama Independent Schools Association said in a statement.

AISA Director Michael McLendon had originally said Caden had died in a statement posted on the AISA Facebook page Saturday morning. That statement was later removed and another statement said Caden had suffered a “tragic injury.”

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic injury suffered by Morgan Academy football player Caden Tellier,” McLendon said in the second statement. “Caden is hospitalized in critical condition with a brain injury.”
