Two siblings die of food poisoning, mother dies of shock

HYDERABAD:

Two siblings lost their lives, suspected of food poisoning, while their mother reportedly died of grief over the death of her children in Dadu district.

Police said a man named Sikandar Shaikh and his three children fell unconscious after eating a meal at their house in Kassai Mohalla, Mehar taluka of Dadu on Friday night. They were rushed to a local clinic where Shaikh’s 12-year-old son Junaid Shaikh was declared dead.

The family was later admitted to Shaheed Muhatarma Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Larkana, but his daughter Tayabba also died on the way there, police added.

Sikandar, a well-known photographer from the town of Mehar, told local media that he and his children had naan (bread) with home-cooked chicken curry at a restaurant.

Meanwhile, the mother Rizwana also died on Saturday, reportedly due to deep shock over the loss of her children.

The incident came to the attention of SSP Dadu Ameer Saud Magsi and the A section police cordoned off the restaurant and arrested the owner, Kumar, and the cook, Manzoor Khaskheli. The police have not filed a complaint yet as they are awaiting the post-mortem reports.

In a related tragic incident on August 18 in Pir Jo Goth in Khairpur district, 12 people were killed.
