Avoid sea water at 11 beaches

Beachgoers should avoid swimming, surfing and playing in sea water at 11 beaches in Los Angeles County where bacteria levels are hazardous to health, the health department warned on Friday.

The warnings were issued because bacteria levels exceeded health standards when the sea water at these beaches was last tested:

  • Redondo Beach Pier, 100 yards up and down the shore from the pier;
  • Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, entire bathing area;
  • Las Flores Creek at Las Flores State Beach, entire swimming area;
  • Walnut Creek in Paradise Cove, entire swimming area;
  • Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach, 100 yards up and down the shore from the public access steps;
  • Ramirez Creek in Paradise Cove; 100 yards up and down the shore from the Paradise Cove Pier;
  • Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro; entire bathing area;
  • Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach; entire swimming area;
  • Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu; 100 yards up the shore and down from the lagoon;
  • Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, 100 meters from the pier up and down the coast; and
  • Solstice Creek at Dan Blocker County Beach, entire swimming area.

A warning was lifted for the Pico-Kenter Storm Drain in Santa Monica Beach, Santa Monica South Tower 20, because recent test samples showed that water quality was within state standards.
