Serenity Flooring opens in Grantham, continuing a family flooring tradition with a modern twist
A flooring expert and his business partner continue the family craft after taking over his uncle’s shop and starting their own new legacy.
Howard Evans, together with Matt White, has revitalised the family’s former flooring business at Alma Park in Grantham with a fresh look and distinctive offerings.
Howard, who began his career under the tutelage of his uncle Andrew Rodgers, has always had a passion for flooring.
Mr. Rodgers opened AJR Carpets in 2014 and now, 10 years later, Howard is taking over.
His uncle’s mentorship gave his career in the industry the decisive impetus and put him on a path that is now leading to the reorientation of the family business.
“I’ve been in the flooring business since I graduated from high school,” Howard said.
“I had already done little things for my uncle before.
“He taught me and showed me the basics before I went to a shop in Rutland where I learned it.
“Taking over the family business and renaming it Serenity Flooring seems like a natural evolution. It’s about honoring the heritage while bringing something new.”
After working with high-quality materials in Rutland, Howard saw an opportunity to combine his experience with a family tradition.
This personal and professional milestone coincides with recent changes in his life, including the birth of his first child.
Business partner Matt has also been in the flooring business for about five years and also works as an installer at AJR Carpets.
Matt, a former postman, was persuaded to take up his new profession after Andrew worked on his property.
“I like to get involved, so I asked if I could do something and he started giving me odd jobs.
“At the end of the day he asked me, ‘Can I give you a job?’ I said I had one, but he came back a few times and offered to train me and I thought, ‘You know what, maybe I’ll just give it a try.'”
“I haven’t looked back since then.”
The new name Serenity Flooring brings unique flooring designs to Grantham.
“We wanted to offer something different than the usual,” Howard said.
“While many companies stick to conventional options, we want to introduce unique patterns and textures that stand out from the norm.”
“Customer focus is our top priority. We don’t rush to get a job done, we focus on doing it right and making sure customers are satisfied,” added Matt White.
Serenity Flooring focuses on residential flooring and does not handle ceramic tiles. Instead, the company specializes in a wide range of innovative flooring solutions.
It offers a special range of floor coverings for the living area and deliberately avoids the common choice of ceramic tiles.
Instead, the shop focuses on unique patterns and textures that stand out from conventional options.
The new showroom is located at Alma Park, Unit 3, Park Road and is open by appointment only.
This allows Howard and Matt to provide a personal service while managing the practical aspects of running a small team.
