Alex Albon disqualified from Dutch GP qualifying due to bodywork irregularities | F1
Alex Albon was excluded from qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix after the FIA found an irregularity in the floor body of his Williams F1 car.
Albon shone in qualifying for the Dutch GP and secured eighth place on the grid.
The Thai driver was the only Williams driver in action after Logan Sargeant suffered a serious accident in FP3.
With the new upgrades from Williams, Albon’s great speed allowed him to break into the top 10 and qualify eighth.
However, his impressive starting position was called into question after the FIA announced that “the floor body was outside the volume specified in the technical regulations”.
After the case was forwarded to the race management, Albon was subsequently excluded from the classification.
The race director stated: “The floor panel of car 23 was outside the regulated volume specified in Article 3.5.1 a) of the FIA Formula 1 Technical Regulations.”
“The team did not contest the calibration of the FIA measurement system and the measurement of the car, but stated that its own measurements had led to different results.”
“The Race Direction concludes that the result of the measurement carried out with the FIA system in the Parc Fermé is the relevant one and that the proper procedure prescribed in the regulations was followed. Therefore, the standard penalty for such an infringement is imposed.”
