Lady Hornets lose at home to Dodd City

Culbertson and Lewis score double-doubles

MILLER GROVE — The Miller Grove Lady Hornets suffered a tough home loss on Tuesday, losing in four sets to the Dodd City Lady Hornets. Although Miller Grove played hard in each set, they were unable to make the crucial plays to win the sets and suffered a tough defeat.

The first set was a high-scoring affair as both teams came into the game with momentum. Although Miller Grove played well, Dodd City narrowly won the opening set 25-22 to establish an early lead.

In the second set, both teams continued to play strongly, resulting in another high scoring set. Dodd City emerged victorious 25-21 and extended their lead to 2-0.

Miller Grove stepped up their game in the third set and was determined to keep the match going. In the end, Miller Grove won the third set 25-17 and sent the match into a fourth set.

In the fourth set, Dodd City stepped up their game as Miller Grove could not keep the game going. Dodd City closed the match with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set, handing Miller Grove a four-set loss.

Anna Culbertson posted a double-double with 25 digs and 16 kills and added an assist. Avery Lewis finished with a double-double of 18 digs and 16 assists and also posted four kills.

Kindle Fisher had 20 digs, six kills, one ace and one assist. Berklee Christian had 13 digs and three aces.

Ava Kerby totaled 12 kills, five digs, two aces and one assist. Audrey Yates finished with 12 assists, three kills and two digs. Other contributors included Kylie Hargrove with five digs and one assist and Rylie Strainer with four digs, two aces and two kills.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets dropped to 1-8 on the season. They returned to play in the North Hopkins Tournament on Thursday and Saturday and played a non-district game on Friday.
