Legal request to remove Shakib from the national team and return him to Bangladesh

Just two days ago, Shakib Al Hasan’s name cropped up in a murder case. Now, a Supreme Court lawyer has sent a legal notice to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), demanding that the star cricketer be removed from the national team and brought back to the country.

The statement said Shakib should be recalled to Bangladesh in the interest of a fair investigation into the murder case.

Attempts to reach several BCB officials for comment were unsuccessful. However, several directors, including Faruque Ahmed, held a meeting at the BCB office this afternoon. Although Shakib’s situation was discussed, no one has yet made a public statement on the matter.

The lawyer who sent the notice told reporters that since a criminal case has been filed against him, Shakib cannot remain in the national cricket team as per ICC rules. He should be immediately removed from the team and brought back to the country for the investigation to be carried out.

Cricket player Shakib was charged with murder for allegedly ordering the killing of textile worker Rubel during a student anti-discrimination movement.

The case was filed by Rubel’s father Rafiqul Islam at the Adabor police station of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on August 22. Shakib was named as the 28th accused in the case.

Other accused in the Rouble murder case include former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and 156 others. In addition, 500 unidentified people are accused in the case.
